What we have been doing this week

Week Ending 12th June 2026

This week, Hedgehogs have completed their Maths topic on money. Understanding money is an important life skill that children use every day. The more exposure they have to handling and discussing money, the more confident they become. Could they budget with their pocket money? Save towards a special purchase? Work out how long it might take to save for a particular item? These are all valuable real-life maths skills that we have been exploring.

In English, we were lucky enough to take part in a poetry-writing workshop. We have spent time editing, refining and improving our poems in preparation for the poetry competition. We can't wait to find out who the winners will be!

In French, we have started learning how to introduce ourselves and taking part in simple conversations. The children have enjoyed practising their speaking and listening skills.

We have been very busy in PE this week too! The children have enjoyed taking part in Boxercise, dance, swimming and even a tennis taster session, developing their fitness, coordination and confidence.

In PSHE, the children have been focusing on the topic of worry and have discussed, as a class, different ways to recognise and manage worries. The children explored what worry is, how it can make us feel emotionally and physically, and why everyone experiences worry from time to time. Through class discussions, they considered what they should do if they are feeling worried and learned strategies to help them cope, such as talking to a trusted adult, sharing their feelings with friends, and using calming techniques. The children also identified the people they feel safe speaking to both at school and at home and discussed the importance of asking for help when needed.

In Music, the children have been learning about ballads and exploring what makes this style of music unique. They listened to a variety of songs from different genres and discussed their thoughts and opinions as a class. The children considered questions such as: How did the song make you feel? What instruments or sounds could you hear? Did the song tell a story? Through these discussions, the children developed their listening skills and learned how music can communicate emotions, ideas, and narratives. They confidently shared their views, listened respectfully to the opinions of others, and thoroughly enjoyed exploring a range of musical styles.
