Week Ending 27th June and 4th July
Over the last couple of weeks Marvelousl Mice have been thinking about holidays to real and imaginary places. We have used a map of the world to find different holiday destinations and learned that temperatures vary depending on where in the world they are. We also read the story Whatever Next! Where Baby Bear travels to the moon. We learned about space and talked about what it would be like to go on holiday to the moon. We have started a new book in English called Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's dairy. We've been asking questions and learning facts about cats and dogs and are making our own leaflets about cats. In mathematics we have been practicing number bonds to 10, doubling and finding odd and even numbers. In art we have used coloured pencils to create a flower design then followed our design to create a tissue paper collage. In PE we have been practising throwing and catching, dribbling a ball and aiming at a target ready for sports day
Week Ending 20th June
This week in Marvellous Mice we have been continuing to learn about different types of transport. In music we have been listening to an orchestra representing a steam train through music. We have noticed that the music is slow in some places then faster in others. We enjoyed moving in time to the music.
In Maths, we have been exploring mapping – representing maps with models and creating maps of familiar places. In RE we talked about different special times in our families and community, such as Weddings, Christenings and local festivals. In English we are reading the story ‘Oi Frog!’ We innovated a story map to create our own ‘Oi!’ stories and have been practising writing sentences. We have also been talking about road safety.
We learnt the Green Cross Code and then practised crossing a pretend road safely. Mrs Laidler was very impressed when we remembered all the rules.

This week in Marvellous Mice we have been reading stories about Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. We searched the internet to find out facts about bears around the world. We have looked closely at teddy bears and created pencil drawings of them, trying hard to represent their fluffy texture. We were challenged to make a new chair for Baby Bear using boxes and other reclaimed materials, making sure it was the right size and could stand up by itself. In mathematics we have been exploring and using 2D shapes and in RE we have heard about different places of worship and talked about what makes them holy. Finally, in English, we have made our own innovated versions of the story ‘So Much!’ and told them to the rest of the class. We are very excited to be going out for another trip in the minibus to the beach. Maybe we’ll manage to dig a big enough hole to fit Mr Draper in!

This week in Marvellous Mice we have been reading different versions of Little Red Riding Hood. We made a representation of Red Riding Hood’s route to Grandma’s cottage then drew a giant map to show the way. We had great fun playing with the electronic Bee Bots and were challenged to make them travel to different locations in the classroom. In RE we have been thinking about special places and what makes them special to us. In art we have collaged a woodland background and added images of Red Riding Hood and the wolf. In maths we are exploring grouping and sharing and noticing when groups are equal or not.

This week in Mice we read the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We looked at different bridges around the world and used wooden blocks and construction toys to make our own bridges.
We planted grass seeds to make grass heads and explored how to make different shades of green paint by adding white.
We enjoyed dressing up as the characters from our literacy text 'So Much' and had a fab time using a variety of PE equipment in the sunshine - balls, hoops and bikes.
